Three Days in the Ground
Cypress is a wood associated with death and mourning, from ancient times into the present. The cypress panels of Three Days in the Ground represent the most mysterious of journeys, to death and back (or beyond).
The first cypress panel is dyed with red wine grapes; the three central panels are charred black; and the final panel is leafed in 23 karat gold. This is both a reference to the Christian Easter story, and also a more universal tale of suffering and redemption — the possibility of hitting rock bottom and coming back changed and renewed.
